L'Oréal Infallible Pro-Matte Foundation: Review

I know, I know... I'm late on the bandwagon. I finally decided to pick this foundation up the other day because I've heard great review after great review and I figured it was time I try it out. I ran out of my go-to foundation,
Lancome Teint Idole Ultra 24-H /cries, and I don't want to replace it because it's a little pricey. I've been trying to discover drugstore foundations to give holy-grail status but it's been a challenge because my skin is hard to please.

For the last 3-or-so months I've been using L'Oréal's Tru-Match Lumi foundation, which is great because I've got dry/combination skin but I find it just doesn't flatter my face as much as I'd like. I get really oily around my nose (and just my nose... I know, WTH?) and the Lumi just seems to accentuate it no matter what I do. Even though I have dry skin for the most part, matte foundations don't look cakey on my skin as long as I moisturize generously and I'm a huge fan of the matte-look. Soooo, I thought I would pick the Pro-matte up while I was at Walmart. It was about $17.00, which isn't too bad.

I picked my foundation up in the colour Classic Ivory (which is pretty much the lightest you can go). It was a choice between that and Sun Beige, because those were the only colours available at the store I visited.

As it turns out, Classic Ivory is a very porcelain-pink sort of shade. I did try it out in the store and it didn't seem too bad, but because I'm very yellow-undertoned (and tanned right now) I really need to bronze up after putting this foundation on. Sun Beige was just too dark for me and I didn't want to get a shade I could only (just barely) get away with when I'm tanned in the summer time. Looking at the website now, I think Natural Beige would have been my best colour-match, but oh well. I can make Ivory work.

Aside from the workaround I have to make with my slightly-bogus colour matching, I really like the foundation. I was worried it would be very thick and I would need to slab it on with an oil-paint chisel, but it's actually extremely light. Lighter than most foundations that aren't matte/full-coverage, which is really surprisingly pleasant.

Because I've been lazy in cleaning my makeup brushes, I've actually been using my finger to blend this foundation onto my skin, and then using a makeup sponge to pat it and get rid of streaking, and I'm pleased with the way it turns out through this method. I'm sure it would blend just as nicely with a brush (if not better).

This foundation is very drying, but not in a bad way. The problem I have with a lot of foundations is I feel like they never really "settle" onto my skin and I just feel as though I have to avoid touching my face or it will smudge, or I feel the need to powder my face constantly to avoid feeling greasy. Even though I love my Tru-Match Lumi, that's what it does to me. The Pro-Matte settles very quickly once you blend it in and it stays put. I do have to blend it in small portions at a time on my face, however, because it does dry and settle very quickly.

The only negative thing I would say about this foundation is that it does somewhat accentuate fine lines, and because it sets very quickly, it's hard to fix it or blend it out again once it does. Luckily for me, I really don't have a lot of lines for it to crease in, but I always get those little lines around the sides of my mouth from smiling, and this foundation definitely lets people know that I've been smiling!

All in all, I really like this foundation and the few negatives certainlly don't outweigh the many positives. I'm still going to keep searching for that holy-grail drugstore foundation (if it exists) but for now I'm very happy with this one and it will continue to be my daily go-to.

If you've purchased this foundation, how do you like it? If not, are you planning to try it out?
I'd love to hear your thoughts!
